2016 Route descriptions

Saturday 10 September 2016 - 115km Anatomic Meteor Cruise (ULTRA-marathon): only riders 19 years and older (no Juniors)

Start & finish at NEW venue at the spectacular AFRIDOME, Parys. First 12km will lead riders to the North West side of the river. It is tarmac and relatively flat. Thereafter a rural dirt road with a 2km piece of single track cutting though Koedoeslaagte. At 25km  the route gets more challenging with a 20km jeep track and single track section in the kloof that makes this event a true ultra-marathon. We join the district road just ahead of Venterskroon and climb up Suikerbossie. A concrete jeep track will lead riders into the Suikerbos Nature Reserve. This road will lead us though farm land and the Espach's game farm (Grootkoppe); a winding jeep track followed by the severe 100m (elevation) technical climb before joining the district road winding to Schoemansdrift (60km - lowest point in route). 4km from Schoemansdrif we leave the district road. We will enter the farm Baskop, starting with a fast single track called Rooikappie se woud. A 5km Single track along the Vaal will test your strength. At 68km riders will enter the water stop under roof. ** Here riders will enjoy a voluntary clock-out rest-stop! For the next 15km riders will deal with jeep-track and mainly single track along the river with a few technical sections, like rock gardens, sandy spots and short steep climbs. From the water point at Hakuna Matata riders will be challenged with a partly corregated dirt road (Parys Roubaix style) and a few longish drags. At the 95km, the route leaves all the "nice” roads and continues on farm tracks. A 1km quad trail at Outlaws will be a pre-final challenge before crossing the rock plate climb called Sorrie-berg. The last 12km will lead riders onto the single track trough the bluegum forest until you reach The Afridome.
** All riders will start in one group. All riders will have the leisure to make use of the clock-out at the Baskop water point at 68km into the route. A rider's stop time at this point will be subtracted from his/her over-all time in the results. However, the Single Speed category podium and prize money and "over-all category" podium contestants' results will be determined by the gun-time only.
